Holidays & Observances in Iraq
Iraq is a country in the Middle East. Iraq was once home to several important Mesopotamian civilizations including the Sumerians and the Babylonians. Mesopotamian culture, and the cultures of many other civilizations since the fall of Mesopotamia have all had an influence in Iraqi culture. Many important historical sites are located throughout Iraq. Today Iraq cannot have such a rich culture due to constant war and political instability. The past 30 years have seen almost constant warfare in Iraq. Many holiday celebrations have been stunted by all the instability, but Islamic holidays continue to be celebrated almost universally in this Muslim majority country.
