Auld Lang Syne Traditional New Years song - Do you know the Lyrics?
Body First

We all know the tune and the first few words of Auld Lang Syne as it is played and sung every year at New Years, but how many of us can get past the first few words? If you are like most people, this is how you sing it....

"Should old acquaintence be forgot...hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm"! It's rather funny that for a song that has been sung and played for so many years, most of us don't know the lyrics. Of course, it is the tune that is most familiar and has become the music to bring in the new year in many places around the world.

The lyrics of Auld Lang Syne originated from a Scottish poem first put into print (most likely passed down from previous generations) in 1788 by Robert Burns. It was later set to the music of a folk song which has become one of the most known tunes in history.

Here are the actual English translation of the Lyrics (in case you want to sing past the first few words!)

Should old acquaintance be forgot, and never brought to mind?
Should old acquaintance be forgot, and old lang syne?

  CHORUS:

  For auld lang syne, my dear, for auld lang syne,
  we'll take a cup of kindness yet, for auld lang syne.

And surely you'll buy your pint cup! and surely I'll buy mine!
And we'll take a cup o' kindness yet, for auld lang syne.

We two have run about the slopes, and picked the daisies fine;
But we've wandered many a weary foot, since auld lang syne.

We two have paddled in the stream, from morning sun till dine†;
But seas between us broad have roared since auld lang syne.

And there’s a hand my trusty friend! And give me a hand o' thine!
And we'll take a right good-will draught, for auld lang syne.

Here are a few great videos to sing along with and bring in your new year!
