Holidays & Observances in Costa Rica
Costa Rica is a Spanish-speaking country in Central America. It is one of the most stable countries in the region, with no army, a high life expectancy, and an amazing environmental record. Most Costa Ricans identify themselves as Roman Catholics, and this has defined much of the culture including popular holidays. Easter is the most important holiday, with many businesses closed for the entire Holy Week to allow people to spend time with their families. Holidays in Costa Rica are often spent with families, though specific traditions can change from town to town. Many towns have specific holidays to celebrate their own patron saint.
