Holidays & Observances in Denmark

Denmark in a peninsula in northern Europe bordered by the North Sea and the Baltic Sea. The culture of Denmark is very laid back and relaxed. Most Danes are Lutherans, but they often attend church only on holidays and special occasions, so Christian holidays are especially important and widespread. The most important of these holidays are Easter, Christmas, and St. Martin’s Day, which marks the beginning of winter and is celebrated with light ceremonies like bonfires and processions of children with lanterns. Lent and Holy Week are widely celebrated as well, with many people attending church throughout the season.
