Holidays & Observances in Mali
Mali is a landlocked country in Western Africa. It has a rich pre-colonial history as an important part of several empires. Today Mali is one of the poorest countries in the world with many different tribes and cultural groups. The main unifying attribute is religion: most of the population practices Islam. There are also small populations of Christians and people who practice indigenous religions. Islamic holidays are very important and widely celebrated by the Malian people.
