Special Education Day

Special Education Day is December 2nd

For centuries and centuries, children with disabilities were pushed to the side, considered unteachable and not worth educating. So much potential was wasted because people didn’t understand that children can still be incredibly smart and talented even when they are different. All of that began to change on December 2, 1975, when president Gerald Ford signed into law the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, the first law to focus on special education. This law guaranteed that all children would be entitled to an education to match their needs. Special Education Day celebrates the great strides that have been made in special education and the importance of it in the lives of disabled children and their families. This is also a day to celebrate all of the amazing teachers who work in special education.
