How Good Friday is Celebrated in Guatemala
The previously joyful processions from the day before are now shifted to be sad and sorrowful. Those performing the procession wear black garments as they go through the streets to marching bands playing dreary music. Many of the floats depict Jesus carrying the cross on his back or being crucified on the cross. Reenactments of the story are also performed all the way from the morning to the evening. Regular citizens dress up as the people in the story, including the roman soldiers and Jesus Christ himself. Good Friday is a day to mourn the death of Jesus Christ and is therefore a very serious occasion.
