About Labour Day (Labor Day) aka International Workers' Day or May Day
Most countries celebrate Labour Day on May 1st, also known as May Day, which has also been designated by the United Nations as International Workers' Day. The U.S. and Canada celebrate Labor Day the first Monday in September.
Since 1966, Iceland has been celebrating Labour Day as a national holiday. Many marches take place on this day. Workers join these marches to call for better wages or conditions. The largest march takes place in the capital, but they take place in other towns as well. If the weather permits it, people also choose to celebrate this day off by enjoying the outdoors.
