Holy Saturday is a Christian holiday that is celebrated on the day before Easter. It commemorates the day that Jesus Christ spent lying in his tomb prior to his resurrection. This is the last day of the Holy Week and the last day of Lent.
Holy Saturday, also known as Easter Saturday, is an important holiday in Guatemala. This day consists of mourning the death of Jesus Christ, an important event to Catholics.
How Guatemala Celebrates Holy Saturday
If you are in Guatemala during Holy Saturday, you are bound to see more processions similar to the ones from the days before. These processions, however, are more sorrowful than the bright and fun ones from Maundy Thursday. The floats seen on Holy Saturday are smaller, and depict the Virgin Mary mourning the death of her son. These floats are also only carried by women, who often wear their best, black outfit. None of the floats on this day have any images of Jesus Christ.
