Holidays & Observances in Cambodia
Cambodia is a Southeast Asian country bordered by Vietnam, Laos, and Thailand. Because of recent civil unrest, Cambodia is one of the poorest and most corrupt countries in the world, but its economy is growing quickly. About 95% of the population is Theravada Buddhist, and despite a recent takeover and genocide by an anti-religion communist group, the Khmer Rouge, Buddhism remains an important aspect of Cambodian life. Cambodia has two main types of holidays: Buddhist holidays, and holidays that mark important historical events such as royalty birthdays and peace agreements.
