Holidays & Observances in The Czech Republic
The Czech Republic is a landlocked country in central Europe. It is rich in history and cultural treasures. Today, many of its citizens do not consider themselves religious, but the region has a long history of Roman Catholicism, so Christian holidays are still widely celebrated even amongst the non-religious. Christmas is especially important, and the whole country celebrates with decorations and Christmas markets during the month of December. Another interesting tradition in the Czech Republic is the name day. Each of the most common names in the country is associated with a specific day of the year – every day has at least one name. People celebrate their name day similarly to how they might celebrate their birthday.
