Seychelles is an archipelago made up of over a hundred islands in the Indian Ocean. It has been owned by both the French and the British who brought slaves from Africa and indentured servants from India and China. Modern Seychelles reflects influences from all of these sources in its culture and its mixed-race people. Christianity is practiced by most of the people and its holidays account for the most important celebrations. There are few public holidays celebrated in the country. People are more enthusiastic for the religious celebrations and cultural festivals.
