Cinco de Mayo

Cinco de Mayo is a Mexican holiday that celebrates the Mexican victory against the French in the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. In Mexico, this is considered a very important holiday, though it is not a public holiday anywhere except the state of Puebla. In Puebla many festivities are held where people often dress up in traditional costumes.

Cinco de Mayo festivals are also very popular in the United States. Many cities in U.S., particularly those with large Mexican populations celebrate Mexican culture and Mexican businesses. Other cities around the world also celebrate Cinco de Mayo by celebrating Mexican culture much the same way it is celebrated in the United States.
