December is Quince & Watermelon Month! Most of us know and love watermelon, but do you know about quince? It is a tough, fall fruit that grows similarly to an apple or pear, but is inedible when raw because it is incredibly astringent. It's also difficult to work with because of its rough, knobby, spongy texture. Once it's cooked though, it is a delightfully sweet treat. Try making it into a syrup, baking it into tarts, or even trying it with cheese. Don't forget to invite watermelon to this party!
