Holidays & Observances in Bangladesh
Bangladesh is an Asian country located on the Bay of Bengal surrounded on almost all sides by India. Most of the population is Muslim, with about 8% being Hindu, so Muslim holidays are an important part of Bangladeshi culture. Many people in Bangladesh feel a strong connection to their language, Bangla, and the culture it represents. This is because their language was nearly taken away from them during the decades when Bangladesh was a part of Pakistan. They even have a holiday called International Mother Tongue Day to celebrate their love for their language and honor those who fought to keep it. They also celebrate New Year on the Bengali calendar, which marks the beginning of Summer.
