National Aviation Day is a federal observance in the United States that celebrates aviation and its history. It is celebrated on August 19th because this coincides with Orville Wright’s birthday. Orville Write along with his brother Wilbur built and piloted the first successful airplane. National Aviation day was proclaimed a national observance by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1939. Today it is celebrated mostly in schools. Teachers can organize activities for their students to learn about the history of aviation.
