This may seem like an odd thing to celebrate, but beer cans have definitely changed the way beer is consumed all over the world. The very first beer can ever was sold on January 24th, 1935. It was sold by the Gottfried Krueger Brewing Company in partnership with the American Can Company. In order to make this a reality, the American Can Company had to invent a new kind of pressurized can to keep the beer from reacting with the tin. It was a long process that had to be put on hold for years through prohibition. Finally, in 1935, the process was perfected and the can released to the public.
People were skeptical about the cans at first, but it didn't take long for them to catch on. Cans were cheaper, easier to stack, faster to cool, and during war time, they could be easily shipped to soldiers overseas. By the end of 1935, all the other beer companies had started selling beers by the can and over 200 million cans had been sold.
