Birthmother’s Day is a holiday for the biological mothers of adopted children. The holiday was invented by birthmothers who wanted a day to be recognized, but many find this day to be somewhat offensive. Those mothers who want to be celebrated by their biological children feel that they should be honored on Mother's Day. But for the people who do celebrate this holiday it can be a day for children in open adoptions to celebrate with their birthmothers or for those mothers to take some time to reflect on the difficult decision they made, often with groups of other mothers who made the same choice. Birthmother’s Day takes place on the Saturday before Mother’s Day.
