Celebration of Life Day is a holiday to appreciate life in all its wonders. It started as a day for people to celebrate their children and grandchildren; to recognize the beauty in creating life. Now, it is a time to celebrate all living things. ‘Stop and smell the roses’ isn’t an overused expression for nothing. We encourage each other to slow down and appreciate the beauty around us, because we’re lucky enough to be alive to experience it. This holiday was created as an extra reminder to take a moment of gratitude for the life you have.
How to Celebrate Life on Celebration of Life Day
Do the things that make you feel alive. Have you ever had a great day, where the sun shines just right, and you feel overwhelmingly present? Spend today chasing those moments. If you get a thrill from adrenaline rushes, do something that scares you. If you’ve been working too hard, take downtime for yourself, and celebrate the ability to relax.
Recognize the beauty in life around you. What exists that brings you joy? Is it a movie? A person? Take advantage of this holiday by appreciating those lively aspects of life: watch that movie, tell your loved ones what they mean to you.
If you don’t have children, or you’re at a point where you struggle to see why we should celebrate life, notice that there are people eager to celebrate. Maybe, appreciate the lives of those you don't know by volunteering or giving to a charity where those eager folks are. Maybe you’ll start to understand the importance of this holiday by spending time with those who love it.
