With everything that goes on day-to-day, it’s easy to forget the importance of connecting with people. Cheer Up the Lonely Day is all about remedying that and strengthening those connections! Started by Francis Pesek, the holiday takes place every year on his birthday, July 11th. By creating this holiday, Pesek hoped to inspire people to bring happiness to the lives of others, particularly the isolated. It is reported that Pesek got this idea from nursing home patients and other people in solitary situations.
The best way to honor this day is right in its name- cheer up the lonely!
If you suspect someone in your life is lonesome, this is the perfect day to make them feel seen. You can spend time together by taking them out on the town, going to their favorite restaurant, or just sitting with them. Sending a postcard or writing an email are great ways to get the good vibes out, too! Make sure to look outside of your circle. Take further inspiration from Francis Pesek and volunteer at nursing homes. Soup kitchens and homeless shelters are also great ways to reach out to the lonely!
How this Holiday Unites People
Cheer Up the Lonely Day is all about encouraging people to connect with one another. Make time to reach out to loved ones and anyone you might think is lonely!
