This holiday is about remembering the importance of one of the main methods of consuming any sort of beverage, drinking straws. Straws make it easier to drink icy beverages without worrying about spilling them. January 3rd is the Drinking straw’s birthday, patented by Marvin Stone on January 3, 1888.
Drinking straws were originally patented by inventor Marvin Stone back in 1888, we now celebrate his invention with a holiday in his honor. Without Stone’s ingenuity, we would be without a fairly practical means of drinking beverages. So with Drinking Straw Day, it is our way of thanking him for this underappreciated invention.

“A straw enables you to drink without using your wrist. A straw is your friend - until you lose eye contact with the straw. Then it will betray you and make you look like an idiot.” ~ Demetri Martin
