International Day of the Tropics is observed June 29th annually, designated in 2016 by the United Nations General Assembly (A/RES/70/267) to raise awareness to the specific challenges faced by tropical areas.
The tropics are home to more than half of all plant and animal species on Earth, and many of these species are found nowhere else. The tropics are also incredibly important for the global climate. Tropical forests help regulate the Earth’s temperature and produce a large amount of the world’s oxygen.
On International Day of the Tropics, we celebrate the amazing diversity of life found in tropical ecosystems and raising awareness about the importance of conserving these precious habitats. Celebrate International Day of the Tropics and help support protection of tropical areas on our planet.
