International Roma Day is observed on April 8 to celebrate Roma culture, and to bring awareness to the discrimination the Roma people face in all areas of life.
The Roma are also sometimes called Gypsies as they are sometimes thought of as exotic and strange. This has led to discrimination and persecution for many centuries. The Roma culture exists in Europe and the U.S. and are one of the largest ethnic minorities in Europe. They are a people with a rich tradition and an emphasis on family.
