Engineering is a career that is still dominated by men. Women are just as capable of being engineers as men, and they have made great contributions to the field. But our society in general does not encourage young girls to join the engineering career path, so many do not see it as an option. Girls have a unique perspective to solve problems that exist in their own lives and leaving girls out of engineering means missing out on those solutions entirely. Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day takes place on the Thursday of Engineers Week, a week (the last full week in February) dedicated to teaching all children about engineering and why it’s important. Thursday is the day to encourage young girls to take up an interest in engineering. Many companies and schools sponsor engineering programs for young girls on this day.
