Irish Coffee Is made by combining strong coffee, Irish whiskey, and brown sugar and topping it with cream. This is the perfect drink to keep you feeling energized on a night out or to keep you warm on a cold night. The drink was invented by Joe Sheridan, a chef at the Shannon airport in Ireland. It was brought back to America by travel writer, Stanton Delaplane, who had Sheridan's version at the airport. Celebrate by making your own at home or heading to a local Irish pub where they can make it for you.
Irish Central talks about how Stanton Delaplane, a travel writer at the time for the San Francisco Chronicle, brought the recipe back to the states, to the Buena Vista Café in San Francisco - where the first Irish coffee was served on November 10th, 1952. Buena Vista bar owners worked with the town mayor to perfect the art of floating the cream on top of the coffee. They discovered that cream aged for more than 48 hours worked best.
