This holiday is the Commemoration of the birth of John Ronald Reuel (J.R.R.) Tolkien in 1892. It celebrates his world famous fantasy writings that have become part of mainstream culture with such titles as The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.
The legendary Lord of the Rings author has been worshipped by fantasy novel fans for many years now, so it’s only natural that Tolkien’s birthday (January 3rd) is celebrated among them every year.
How to Celebrate
The classic means of celebrating Tolkien’s birthday is of course a day long movie marathon of the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings films. You could also spend the day reading the books that inspired the films (though it is quite a bit of reading). Lots of fans also like to cosplay the many characters Tolkien created.
Check out any of his works from your local library or learn up on Tolkien himself online and discover what his inspirations were.
Many love and adore Tolkien and his fantasy worldbuilding, this holiday brings fantasy nerds together to appreciate the enjoyable fantastic storytelling that he’s built a legacy on.
