Kid Inventor’s Day, also called K.I.D., is a day to celebrate and encourage kids and the completely unique viewpoint they can use to invent things. Adults may not realize it, but many things that we consider a part of our everyday lives were invented by children. Some of these inventions are exactly what you would expect from kids, like the popsicle and the trampoline, but many kids have made things that can seriously improve the lives of those around them. Louis Braille was only a teenager when he invented a written language for the blind, and teens have been creating things to help people in similar ways ever since. Today is a day to remind ourselves as adults never to underestimate the power of a strong mind, even when that mind belongs to a kid. They may be young, but they are capable of so much when given the right opportunities. This holiday is celebrated on January 17th to honor the birthday of Benjamin Franklin, who made his first invention, swim fins for your hands, when he was only 11-years-old.
