Learn to Swim Day is a holiday dedicated to teaching children to swim. Drowning is one of the leading causes of death amongst children under the age of 14, so swimming is such an important skill for them to have. Not only is swimming an important skill to have, it’s also fun! The start of summer is the perfect time to learn out to swim. The weather is starting to get warm and now your kids will have the rest of the season to enjoy their new skill!
History of Learn to Swim Day
In 2012, Swimways founded National Learn to Swim Day. with its partner the USA Swimming Foundation, which is a non-profit organization built around the framework of saving lives and creating champions inside and outside the pool. They both work toward creating awareness and education about water safety and the benefits of learning to swim.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states that drowning is the second-leading cause of unintentional injury-related death for children ages one to 14.
