Red Planet Day is a holiday to celebrate our neighbor in the solar system, Mars, affectionately called the red planet. The holiday is celebrated on the date of the launch of the Spacecraft Mariner 4 on November 28, 1964. The spacecraft came closer to Mars than any had ever come before it and gave us our first close up pictures of the planet. More and more information about Mars is being discovered by scientists constantly ever since.
Red Planet Day is a great day to educate yourself about what we currently know and what we are doing to learn more. If you have a telescope another way to celebrate this holiday is to locate Mars in the sky and see it first hand. November is often a great time to see it in most locations.
