Celebrating the invention of the Safety Pin on the day the Safety Pin was patented on April 10, 1849 by American Walter Hunt. The safety pin patent was for the general function and design of the safety pin we know and use today, a piece of wire coiled into a spring at one end and a clasp and end point at the other end. The concept of a safety pin in other forms has been around for centuries, but this invention included the safety clasp that keeps the pin closed and pointed end safe.
