World Smile Day is a special day celebrated annually on the first Friday in October. The day encourages people to do something nice for someone else and put a smile on their face.
It was created by Harvey Ball, who was a commercial artist from Worcester, Massachusetts. He created the smiley face in 1963 and it became popular worldwide. In honor of his work, the World Smile Foundation was created and the first World Smile Day was celebrated in 1999.
