Assumption Day

Assumption

Assumption of Mary, also known as Assumption Day, this is a Christian feast day celebrated all around the world. Assumption Day commemorates the day of the Virgin Mary’s death, the day she was welcomed to heaven. Most countries celebrate it on August 15th, though in some places it is observed on different dates.

Around the world it is celebrated in many ways. For some countries, particularly those in Europe and South America, it is a major public holiday. For many English-speaking countries it is not a public holiday and is only observed by some people. Traditions vary, but they usually include mass and a feast to celebrate the Virgin Mary.
